Ok, so i had recently become interested in changing the colour of my hair from a dark brown- mid black to a light caramel brown with blonde highlights, quite like that of teen superstar JoJo’s:

I have to admit: i’ve admired it for a long time and so now i had actually plucked up the courage to undergo my radical new change- myself!
So, the first thing i did was to check out Google for some product reviews and advice on how to change my hair colour from extremely dark to light without damaging my hair.
I found that quite a few people would recommend that of L’oreal’s Super Blonde, a bleach which can be used to either:
1. Lighten naturally dark hair in order to prepare it for colouring
2. Strip away the dye from coloured hair in order to re-colour using a different shade of dye
I headed to my local Boots store to make my purchase and according to the instruction leaflet within the pack, using L’oreal’s Excellence or Recital was recommended to recolour my hair after use. So i purchased Natural Dark Blonde (shade 7) of L’oreal’s Excellence Creme colourant.
I’d read previously on one of the reviews that using the Super Blonde colourant had made their hair an orangey/ coppery colour after use and to be honest, i don’t think that they understood that this is normal because you are actually supposed to apply another colour to the hair for the final result which therefore colours over this tint.
So, i followed the instrustions to the book:
1. Start by carefully untangling your hair. Apply 2/3 of the mixture to the lengths and tips only, beginning at the nape and avoiding the first 3 centimetres of roots. Massage thoroughly into the hair.
2. Leave it to develop for 20 to 30 minutes. After that, apply the rest of the product to the first 3 centimetres of roots, then massage again to help penetration of the product. Leave it to develop for a further 20 to 30 minutes.
3. Pour a little lukewarm water into the hair and massage gently, then rinse thoroughly, until the water runs clear.
4. Finish by applying hair of the Nutri Ceramide Conditioner provided. Massage gently and rinse thoroughly.
So, my finishing result was pleasing. It wasn’t black anymore, more so a reddy, lighter brown colour which obviously was easier to colour over.
I used the new hair colourant a couple of hours later.
I left it 3 days (after applying a deep conditioner), though before applying the blonde highlighting dye, just to be sure that my hair wouldn’t become damaged from all of the chemicals i used.
And, there you have it =]
